Why Commercial Gas Is Different

Commercial LPG is not domestic gas at a larger scale. The loads are higher, the demand patterns are spikier, the storage requirements are more demanding, and the consequences of getting the sizing wrong show up as lost trading rather than mild inconvenience. Commercial installations also carry documentation obligations that domestic ones generally do not, which is why certification, drawings and test records matter more than most operators expect until the first time a landlord or insurer asks for them.

Choosing a Commercial Gas Installer

A few things worth asking any installer before you appoint them, whoever you get quotes from:

• Ask for their registration details, and confirm the registration covers commercial or industrial work rather than domestic installations only.
• Ask how they arrived at the pipe sizing. A quote that does not reference your appliance load has not been sized.
• Check that the quote itemises testing and certification rather than leaving them implied.
• Confirm what happens if the survey finds remedial work — whether it is included, excluded or provisional.
• Agree the working hours in writing if you need the premises to keep trading.
• Confirm what documentation you receive at handover.
